Morning glory has huge leaves but no flowers, why? Planted in May in sunny area. live in michigan?

I also live in Michigan (U.P.) and have always found that my morning glories never bloom until mid or late August. Maybe just another week or so of patience............

Good Luck!

You may have planted the seeds/plant too deep.
Reply:Maybe it only blooms in the early morning light..thus Morning Glory?
Reply:Is it getting enough water? No plant wastes it's resources on blooms if it's not getting enough water.
Reply:i don't know about morning glory, but my morning wood is usually fairly large.
Reply:Too much fertilizer. Morning Glories need somewhat poor soil. If you've added too much fertilizer you'll have wonderful foliage and very few flowers.

Also...they may need a few more weeks to reach their peak bloom. Give them a little more time.

The blooms will only last until about 9 or 10 am unless there is a little, light morning shade...then you might get another hour to see the blooms.
Reply:You have probably over fertilized it. Plants will not produce flowers or fruit if they have too much fertilizer.
Reply:Needs food. Plants need lots of energy to flower. Give it some fertilizer.
Reply:mine did the same thing this year!i found out that morning glories like poor soil conditions!i didnt find that out until i had been feeding them miracle grow just like the other flowers i was growing, and so mine made only the big pretty leaves!
Reply:They have lovely purple flowers, yet I honestly have only seen them in the dewy morning hours. They close up for the hot parts of the day.

My grandmother said, blooming flowers should be planted with eastern exposure with a side wall or fence to block the cold breezes and enough shade to protect it from the hot afternoon sun.

My old fashioned roses are crazy beautiful with little effort. She was right about that for me.
Reply:Mine is on flower strike too!
